Update: If you look through the comments, you'll see this doesn't work for some people. If it works or doesn't work, kindly post your laptop model, then maybe we can have a list that will save people some trial and error.

My first blog about how to overlock the my T2300 was really long, and 90% of it was talking about the things that failed to work. So here's a blog with 90% of it talking about what works.

  1. With Clockgen or SetFSB open the PLL Setup window, and select the ICS shown in the image or ICS954123, ICS954123CGLF, ICS954227CGLF (others may work, but these are tested). Then click 'Read Clocks.' PLL Setup

  2. Find byte 09h. It's highlighted in blue. Click on it. Change it to 7F or 01111111. Click 'Update Selection' then click 'Apply Selection.'
    PLL Setup

  3. Open the PLL control window (if you're using ClockGen). If it looks like junk (see below) click 'Read Clocks' again.
    PLL Control

  4. Now it should look normal, and display your stock clocks.
    PLL Control

  5. Now just slide the slider to your desired speed and click 'Apply Selection.'

    PLL Control

That's it.

Thx much and what speed do you prefer?

In my experience, any speed will be completely stable...it will only allow a pretty small overclock in comparison to a desktop. I've seen T2300's in desktops get dramatically higher numbers. So any speed you set won't come any where near the CPUs limitations.

If you are using the 5672, something in the chipset will adjust the clock depending on the heat. So if you set the clocks to 2050MHz, but it only went up to 2030MHz, it will keep trying to reach 2050MHz and will do so if the temperatures are right. At the same time if things get too hot, it will automatically drop the clocks. So what you wind up with is practically complete stability. I don't mean go set the clocks to 2.5GHz...but 2.06GHz seems fair. If it can't do it, it won't! But it will just keep trying...keep an eye on how it behaves with CPU-Z or something.

Thx for advice. I tried set clock to 2000 Mhz, but it allow me max. 1950 MHz. It don't allow me more than that. I have 5672 and XP Pro.

And do you know how to overclock GPU in this notebook? I tried PowerStrip, but i don't know what clock is good and stable.

Thx for any advice

Hi there,

To overclock the x1600 ATITool works weel. RivaTuner should also work.

But you should be aware of the heatpipe design. If you've ever added more RAM or needed to open up the bottom panel, you'll see that the CPU, GPU and Northbridge all share the same cooling system. So, a temperature rise on any of those three will affect the others.

But you'll also see that there is room to put some mini-heatsinks. They should give you a few extra megahertz here and there. Not really worth it unless you have some lying around, but just thought I'd let you know.

I actually sold my laptop, so I can't look up the clocks. I can't remember for sure, but I think this is safe: GPU - 570MHz+/- | GPURAM - 600MHz+/-

Hope it helps!

I got T2400 on intel 945 chipset that from 2005 but i got another reading from the PLL Setup than you:

00-01-02-03-04-05-06-07-08-09-0A

FF FF FF 00 01 00 BB 11 13 02 91
CA 3C E7 3B AD 3D

I tried what you did but it didnt work for me, although i know i have the same chipset and type of procesor.
Ive turned SS control off (byte6,bit1) and bit0 on. nothing happens when i move the slider it just snaps back in original position.

Do you have any suggestions?

It sounds like we have very different PLLs. Your Byte 09h looks like this in binary: 00010011 (13h) and mine is 01111110 (7Eh)

The only thing I had to do to unlock it was change the very last bit to 1. In your case the last bit is already set to 1, so I think this can only mean that you have a VERY different PLL. I think in your case you won't be working with the 09h offset.

Try to look at the different offsets, particularly one where the last bit is 0 and resembles 01111110.

Hope that makes sense.

mk410 is for he calistoga chipset and that exactly what it says when i boot up.
Butanyways im gonna check it out Smile it just has to work for meTong

Sorry to hear that. I know of two 5672's that can do it. Are you using Vista? You have to run the program as an Administrator if so (right click - run as admin).

Ninj

Hi!

After weeks trying to OC my laptop (Asus A8J with T2400), the guy of CPUCool helped me to find where did the problem come from. The PLL on my mobo is ICS 954310. It wasn't listed anywhere, so he found the specs and added it to the last version of CPUCool. After many tries, we arrived on the conclusion that my PLL was readable with good specs, but **not writable** !

I tried your method, but when I try to change any of the values in clockgen, it does not take it and stays at its original value.

So if anyone has an idea of how to change the PLL value when it's protected, I take it Smile Thanks a lot!

I can't find the PLL for my ACER Aspire notebook www.newegg.com/.../Product.aspx

I took it apart to look for the PLL number myself, but I couldn't find it.
I'm using an Intel T5450 Core2Duo processor, with the 965 chipset.

Well done ruisu. It didn't work for me because I think my PLL is different from yours even though i'm using an i945PM as well. My processor is a Merom and frequently changes the actual speed all the time, so with that into consideration I'm sure that there would probably be a more complex PLL contol manual. I'm still not sure of my exact PLL (because i've yet to find 100% specs of my laptop (and I'd rather not go inside it)) but just to show you how different some PLL within the range you were suggesting can get here's a document to a "very familiar" PLL. www.idt.com/products/getDoc.cfm?docID=2537903 ... Then again you specifically said Yonah overclocking... not Merom... which means I'm kinda the pioneer for my own... even though it hasn't worked yet. sigh.

I have a Acer aspire 5570z...Dual core T2060(yonah).1.6ghz over clocked to 2002.5...I am using the ICS954123 in clockgen....How can i find out if i have a diffrent one? and when i do the 01111111.......the 3rd or 4th 1 switches to a 0 for some reason? any input would be great email me at cyberfool83@yahoo.com

P.S

Thank you for these great directions.

Hi Luke, thank you for the feedback! I emailed you. But to anyone else reading this: I would be satisfied with a 20% OC with a Yonah laptop.

Yonah's run pretty hot as it is, and laptops are cramped things that don't have the best circulation.

hi there,
im not sure if its because windows is automatically adjusting the processor, but everytime i overclock my cpu, it will automatically reset to 1000.07 each time i open the program.
i have an acer 5672wlmi with t2300 1.66.
could someone please explain whats goin on? ie. if the cpu cannot be overclocked or if it is overclocked and windows is just saving the power.
tahnks in advance

(ps. i have uninstalled all the epower management stuff too, as iv heard it is a system hog)

I don't think that's the power savings mode. I think the multiplier for power savings on the t2300 was x6 (166MHzx6 = 1GHz) and the full power multi is 10x. I could be wrong though, try putting it under load and monitoring it with CPU-Z. That is the same Acer model I was using, so I'd be surprised if this guide doesn't work for you.

Good luck!
